Suffering in a relationship is something we have normalized, who has not heard that to love is to suffer? But why do we so often suffer so much in love? At what point have we assumed that love and suffering must go hand in hand? It must be because of culture, because of education. It is an unspoken message that has been transmitted to us from generation to generation, maybe I don't know, but it is a question that has been on my mind for several years and on which I have meditated a lot.

No one likes to suffer, so why do we end up allowing everything to a partner? Why do we allow ourselves to go to the limit to realize why so many times we are not well and yet we are unable to cut with the relationship and turn the page? Many times we don't do it because we have emotional dependency and many times we get sick and stressed by so many things that we don't realize that all this is due to anxiety and dependency towards that partner.

We must try to rethink love in a healthier, more rational, more mature way and not as it was sold to us in movies and novels, not in such a romantic way that often ends up leading us to suffer. Many times we end up getting tired by tradition, because everyone does it, and we repeat words without knowing their true meaning. For example, 'I promise to be faithful to you all the days of my life, until death do us part'. Analyzing the words well, we assume that we know the future and we will continue to love that person. This idea continues to have a very important weight in our mind, in our way of understanding love and relationship. If we take into account that we are in constant evolution and change, then we are in constant evolution and change.

When we are in a couple relationship, we are growing and evolving together, but we are also evolving and growing on an individual level. It may happen that at some point we realize that we are not moving in the same direction or at the same speed. What should we do in that case? Stay there, feeling chained, feeling that we are living in a prison because one day we promised? In my opinion, the sensible and mature thing to do would be to look at our partner on the wedding day and say: 'I love you today and I would like to continue to love you always, and I hope it will be so for years to come.' We should not say false words that most of us do not keep, as proof of this are divorces, which outnumber marriages.

A relationship is a bond, something that is alive, like a garden that we must water and take care of. If we don't do it, in the end it withers and that love dies. Dependency in a relationship is like an addiction. A person generates a toxic attachment to the partner, there is a need to be with that person, not by choice, but by necessity I have a friend named Claudia, she has four beautiful children, two girls and two boys. However, her husband is one of those macho men who think that women should only be at home and not work. He used to be abusive and beat her for many years. On many occasions, she endured in silence for her children. She used to say, 'If it wasn't for my children, I would have left him by now.' As a mother, I understand to some extent her sacrifice, because she was not only emotionally dependent, but also financially dependent, as her husband was the breadwinner. But indirectly, what she was teaching her daughters and sons was to do the same. Thank God, she managed to leave this abusive man.

I believe that in order to start a healthy relationship and be successful in the future, we should try to know the other person in depth. This means being aware and seeing our partner in all his or her facets: when he or she is sad, when he or she is happy, when he or she is angry, depressed, and so on. Knowing what we like and dislike about that person. However, the reality is that most of the time we get carried away by emotions, by momentary love, by passion. And this ends up being a time bomb that sooner or later will explode. For those who get married in the first months of knowing each other or have children quickly, this can be even worse.

No one has the right to believe they can change you, if they do it's because they don't really love you.
