After a week and a half of vacation, it is time to return to work. It appears that my building is still standing. From messages in my inbox, and private messages from my higher ups, there are some matters that I will need to address. The hope is that with the time off, I can come to my job with fresh eyes. Perhaps I will be inspired to change some things.
Obviously, most of what one would change as a Facility Manager is personnel-related. Buildings are mostly mechanical things that work or don't work. In addition, their desired mode of operation is known and can be regained with little effort.
Some major items on my plate are some construction and maintenance projects that are on hold. I don't know why they are on hold. I need to talk to all the stakeholders and see what we need to do to move things forward.
In addition, I need to work on our landscaping. We had some shrubs pulled up because they dried up after a freeze. We have not selected replacement vegetation. The building looks odd without greenery up front.
And, I also need to start developing a budget for the next fiscal year.
