The next few days passed on the road, with occasional halts to give rest to the oxen. Siala more than once saw black eyes in the crowd. But she did not dare to ask for help. Finally, they arrived at the camp of recruits under Mainstat. They were welcomed by the military in the form of the Sanhad Empire. And they were sent to the distribution center. Group of mages was much smaller than ordinary soldiers. They were held beyond the distribution point, under a huge canopy they were met by the Master of the Imperial Academy. Boris, nicknamed Misty, greeted all the gathered magicians and asked to show their abilities one by one.
The most interesting part began. An unfamiliar dark-haired girl showed water control. Nearby there was a mug on the table, from which a trickle of water rose, she snapped it around in the air and returned to the mug. Next was Archer. He created a lightning bolt from the air, which struck an empty spot near the master. He didn’t raise his eyebrow at this trick, but only nodded his head. Marana immediately said that she was a healer and wanted to show off her skills. The master without hesitation took out a small dagger and cut himself on the outside of the palm of his hand. Everyone was surprised with such an act, but Marana quickly healed the wound, there wasn’t a single trace left. The master turned to Siala. And the girl clearly understood - to do the same thing that her friend just did, she isn’t able. It remains to kindle a fire, which is not on pair for any of the magic spells shown just now.
It was necessary to find a place for the fire. But she couldn’t find a thing that could be safely set on fire. After a minute of throwing her look around, the Master interrupted her, raising his hand.
"Later," he said, and went on to the next mage.
The uncertainty grew, and a lump rolled to her throat. She won’t pass the selection? So, what is next? She has nowhere to go...
Siala looked up at her friends. Marana caught the girl's gaze and nodded toward the non-burning torch. Light a torch? A whole torch?! Siala stood a little uncertain, but there was no choice. The next person after her has already shown his ability. Siala turned to the right just as the Magister turned to the black-haired magician. The girl's breath caught. Those black eyes are so close.
