While I was getting reference photos for the Tom painting I shared few days ago, I stumbled on this one. It was also as plane as plane could be. At some point before I finished, (after i'd added the shadows) I had to ask my brother for his own view of the shadow. He disagreed with me as to the right arm of Tom being the way it is but I don't see it any other way. I also wanted to add some highlights but felt that the direction of the light was strong enough to cast it and adding something would make the painting somewhat unrealistic.
I also have been thinking of trying manipulation in my next piece. that aside, I would like to get your opinion as regards to the background. What do you think about it? Feel free to leave your comments below....
