This summer my boyfriend and I decided to go to Greece. We researched a lot, read many travel blogs, experiences and advices from different people and after all decided to visit Thassos!
Even the travelling to Thassos is a unique experience. We travelled by bus and then by ferry. We took a ferry in the place called Keramoti to the capital of Thassos, Limenas.
Wind, blue waves around and seagles! Such a relaxing time!
After 40 minutes of travelling by ferry we arrived at Thassos. We stayed at Pothos. It is a very nice place, not too big, but with everything you need. There are lot of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, shops. There is also a doctor.
The combination of old and modern is really interesting. The narrow streets with flowers around, but you can also have that modern fish pedicire if you like that kind of things. :-)
The beach in Pothos is really beutiful and long.
We came by bus, not by car, but that wasn't too bad. Even without a car, only by foot, you can see a lot of things.
For example, we walked every evening to Pefkari and Limenaria.
Pefkari is a nearby place, it is nice and cosy but maybe too small. The beach is really nice, but there is only one street in the whole place so not so many things to see around. Still, if you want to really relax, this might be a good place. You are separated from the crowd that is common in bigger places, but you are still near those places in case you get bored.
Between Pefkari and Limenaria there is a small church and a cliff where you can enjoy the view. Look at this view!
You have lamps along the path so it is safe to walk here even during the night. And the path is nice for one more reason - you are separated from the highway.
Near Limenaria is a mysterious old house settled on the cliff.
Limenaria is bigger than Pothos, the distance between them is around 8 km. Limenaria has more restaurants, shops, appartements, and the dock that is extremely beautiful. But, the beach in Limenaria is something we did not like - it seemed dirty and too small.
We also decided to go to a one day trip so we could see the whole island.
First place we visited was a magnificent monastery St. Archangel Michael. It is located on the steep cliff. It is well known for a piece of the Holy Nail that is being kept inside. You feel so calm when you enter the monastery. Our tourist guide told us some stories and legends about the origin of the monastery, they all makes you wonder...
Our next stop was a small village Penagia. It is famous for olive factory that is in it. However, we liked the Theologos village better. It is so picturesque, charming and somehow tucked away.
Our last stop was the jewellery factory Iris Gold. You can buy jewellery for some reasonable price. A yard in front of the factory is magnificent!
We saw many places, we liked some of them more or less, we enjoyed some beaches more or less, but one thing was the same in each place - the most magnificent sunsets are definitely in Thassos!
