Welcome to Wroclaw

There is a small street in the very center of Wroclaw old town. A street where you feel like in a small town centuries ago. Surrounded by animals, wooden houses and stone street.

Jatki street must be one of the most visited street by tourists that come to Wroclaw, Poland. It is right outside of the main town square, so you don't have to walk far. It is like a hidden gem among all those hotels, restaurants and pubs.

Many old structures date to 17th and 18th centuries and some fundaments that the buildings were built date even to 13th century.
In the olden days it was butchers street (thus the name) and there is still a little rocky channel that runs though the center of the street from one side, to another. I heard (and it is probably true) that it was to gather blood from the animals that were butchered there and sold. Creepy, right? Now it is handy when it rains to dry the street.

Those animal figures are modern and were placed there in the 1990. Just a reminder of what the place was and it's history I guess. Currently the little street has small galleries art shops on one side and restaurants on the other. There is no cars there and since not many enter the city center anyway, it is quiet there (not counting hoards of tourists) and feel of a big city enter is completely gone as soon as you enter the gates.

It is also one of my favorite place to walk whenever I am in visiting.
