The least places I know are in the Nikolsky district of the Vologda region, although I pass the Nikolsk-Totma highway several times a year.
Vakhnevo is considered a village, but when there is a church, then most likely it was once a settlement. It is also the center of a rural settlement.
Many people still live here, perhaps about a hundred.
Vakhnevo is located on a hillside near the Sharzhenga River.
The main road in the village is asphalt, but the most interesting is to climb up the secondary winding street.
Traditionally, like in any village in the Vologda region, Vakhnevo has beautiful five-walled huts with carved balconies.
And there are also destroyed houses. On the rise, a section of the road was washed away by melt water.
The top offers beautiful views, but this is not yet the top of the hill.
The local club appears to be abandoned, but it still functions.
There are simpler houses on a parallel street.

In Vakhnevo there are a couple of two-storey brick apartment buildings.
One of them is abandoned. Although it looks more like an unfinished building, which was never put into operation.
And then there is a large brick school and, judging by the playground, a kindergarten.
In the courtyard of the school there is a monument to those killed in the Second World War.
At the school stadium, children are engaged in physical education.
And this is a view from the top of the hill.
The old house looks more like a museum piece with such platbands.

A strange impression is created in Vakhnevo.
It seems to be a dying village, but in the store I was able to pay for myself kvass by card.
There seem to be many abandoned houses, but there are still students at the school.
It seems that agriculture has long fallen into decay here.
But the church is being restored. For whom?
To complete the picture, I still need to visit the banks of the Sharzhenga River.
Here the Sharzhenga merges with a small river Andanga.

This bridge leads to the neighboring village of Bolshoe Oksilovo.
On the way there is an abandoned house that looks like a school or some other administrative non-residential building.
But I didn't have time to go to the neighboring village.
