After we had a little outing in Ohtakari, we drove along the coast towards north, near Oulu. Our intended destination was the impressive Koiteli rapids, but we also had a plan be a bit further up north if it seemed like the place was too packed.
Koiteli rapids are only about a half an hour drive from the nearest city, Oulu, so it's a popular outdoorsy destination. There were quite a lot of people but because the place is fairly big and had numerous spots to set up your camp fire and still keep your distance to other groups, it was no problem.
My parents has visited the rapids before, but I hadn't and I was very impressed by the big body of water rushing through and the whole area being very beautiful. There were numerous bridges and walkways to ease exploring the biggest parts of the rapids.
The day of our roadtrip was what I consider to be the first day of summer, since it was the first warm and sunny day I had experienced during this spring. As you might guess, a bright sunny day is not the best for photography, especially if you want to shoot long exposures... The second picture is the most accurate depiction of what the day looked like next to water, HELLA BRIGHT! My eyes are very sensitive and water easily so I was basically blind all day, but did enjoy listening to rushing water.
I don't have a grey filter of any sorts, used the smallest ISO and aperture, and tried to capture some fairly long exposure shots but it was a struggle! Most of the images you see here, were taken after 8PM, yes, PM, as in afternoon, as in a few hours before sunset, and it was still really bright out. Gotta love Finnish summer. Note to self, get a grey filter, and visit really late next time.
Shot with the Nikon D750 and Sigma 85mm f/1.4.
