Earlier this week me and my parents took a long roadtrip north from where we live in central Finland. We packed up snacks and had planned to drive about 350 kilometers north, near Oulu, but since the drive straight there would be somewhat boring, we made a little detour and drove towards the western coast first, and then up north along it.
Our first big stop was Ohtakari, an old fishing village in the Bay of Botnia, a small island, where you can actually drive to. Next to the island, there is an army base, or an area that the army uses a lot for practice and testing purposes, so you have to be careful not to get lost in that area, less you wanna be accidentally blown up.
The island itself is a peaceful place and has been mostly preserved to look similar to the olden days, with little red and natural wood cottages huddled together in one area. When you scroll down to the last picture, you can see a more modern side of the island, a camper van area. Which I think should not be in there, it's disgusting, ugly and ruins everything. But it is what it is.
The terrain on the island is very rocky and barren, and the conditions are really hard during autumn and winter. I would love to rent a cabin for a few days and witness an intense storm there, that would be awesome.
We visited in the middle of day on what seemed like the first day of summer. We walked around the island, hopping from one rock to another and enjoying the sunny day. There were only a few other people that we could see on the island, perfect. I am not a fan of shooting in the middle of day but had to snap some pictures to document the day. I have to visit again during an evening so I can witness a sunset here and get better pictures. I don't think it will be too hard to convince my dad to drive with me here again.
I hope you enjoy the pictures, I shot them with the Nikon D750 and Sigma 85mm f/1.4.
