This is one of those exotic Finnish countryside life -posts I love sharing with you. On Saturday we were invited to a neighbouring village to eat venison soup. These celebrations are usually held right after the moose hunting season is over, which is in the late autumn, early winter, but this hunting group always has their party in the summer. I'm always super excited for these kinds of events, no joke, because the mood is so laid back, fun, and people are so different from the city. Also, gotta love a free meal, which btw was delicious, I love venison!
The average age of this group was probably on the higher side of 50-years-old, so you can be guaranteed that they have some real stories to tell. I'm not very social and I don't talk to strangers, but my parents, especially dad, gets people telling stories and I can just observe and listen. I love watching people and admiring their fashion choices from the 80s. Surprisingly for a Finnish party, there was no alcohol included, would have love to seen these people drink and get merry.
The leader of the hunting group made a short little speech about their previous hunting season and about the upcoming one. This year there are a lot of moose so they have a ton of permits. I think I need to try and buy some meat from them when it's autumn. Eating venison is the least cruel, and most sustainable way to eat meat and it tastes the best. I've seen a moose being shot, dragged from the forest to the slaughter lodge, hung, skinned, cut and then getting to cook and eat it. Most people seem to think all meat grows in the supermarket or in the videos of PETA propaganda. I'm not the most eco friendly person out there, and clearly no vegan, but knowing where your meat came from and following the whole process from the forest to table makes you appreciate every bite of meat.
