Yesterday one of my sisters friends contacted me and asked if I could help her out with taking some fitness-ish photos. I said sure because she is very photogenic and I do need more variety and clients for my fast approaching school showcases.
I’ve never shot anything like this really and I am in no way in a shape that would warrant photos like this, but I do have some tricks up my sleeve. I’m not gonna show you what I looked like in bad lighting, it was truly horrific and almost made me want to eat less chips and do a few sit-ups, but then I found the right light and now I’m athletic again.
It did take me a really long time to get the kind of light I saw in my head. I might have missed some parts of todays lesson over Teams while I busied myself with the setup... I finally got it by using one Godox ad300 with a small reflector and grid on one side, and another with a snoot and a grid.
Lighting is my one trick, the other one is babyoil, it’s the stuff of Greek gods. It’s like magic when the light hits the skin just right and reflects from the oil. 10/10 would recommend.
I took these while on a lunch break and then did a fast raw edit on the pictures, no manipulations on photoshop. I just send these in for the girl to ask if these are anything she would like. Even if not, then at least I now know how to shoot something like this for an actual client that might want buff pictures of themself.
Shot with the Nikon D750 and Nikkor 25-70mm f/2.8, lit with two Godox ad300pros.
