Don’t mind me, just living the dream here in a big old house with a loving man that buys us (read: me) antique furniture. Happy wife, happy life, get with the program.
It had been a while since I last scrolled through the biggest secondhand site on Finland, with my saved search criteria of antique furniture in our county, but yesterday I looked for more much needed storage.
The selection is not huge but there is something new (but old) weekly and when you see something you like, you can’t sleep on it or else it’s gone. After a couple pages of scrolling I came upon this absolute gem, in our town and cheap for what it is. I immediately messaged the seller and said I want it and will come get it as soon as we have a trailer.
By the same evening, this magnificent 240cm tall beauty stood in our livingroom, looking like it was always meant to be there. We basically rescued it from the miserable excistense in a more modern house with low ceilings.
We weren’t told much about the origins of this piece, other than that the previous owners’ parents had it for over 50 years. The man thinks it was made by a Finnish carpenter, judging by the style and materials used.
Structurally this chest of drawers is in good condition, just missing some of the ornamental keyhole thingies, couple little wood pieces and handles, and of course the varnish is worn out. Having most of the design pieces intact, all the keys safe and the original mirror not even having a crack on it is basically a miracle. The man will have to do some blacksmith magic at some point but truthfully I don’t care if nothing is even fixed.
I wasted no time in claiming most of the storage for my yarns, knitting needles and patterns. So dreamy.
