It's indeed so bad to realize that a club of about more than 20 builds its strength around just one player but nevertheless, I think it is high time the Barcelona team learns from their mistake and thinks about how they can make amends before it is too late to make amends.
The UEFA Champions League played yesterday Wednesday between Barcelona and Benfica at the Estadio da Luz stadium was a disheartening match to watch. Although I am more into the Premier League match but for several years now, the Barcelona team has been my best team even though they weren't the best team, but they were trying their best and doing fine until yesterday when they messed up in the field.
It wasn't only obvious that they were so poor but their poor performance yesterday was an indicator that for the past three to four years, Messi has been the only player carrying Barcelona, and now that he is gone, it is obvious to all that Barcelona is in total shambles and what happened yesterday shows it all that the club's strength was built around Messi and now, they are bad without him.
Indeed Barcelona's situation is indeed very critical after they played woefully and allowed Benfica to inflicted a second successive 3-0 Champions League defeat on them yesterday which has lifted Benfica club to the second position leaving them in the fourth position. Even though the Benfica club was physically strong and quick, the Barcelona club had good scoring chances but they were not well coordinated
Now, they sit bottom of Group E. The first half was quite encouraging even though they were the cause of the first goal Benfica gave them, but the second half was an absolute disaster, they could no longer have a hold of the ball and opened up their side giving Benfica chance after chance on the counter. Their attack was nothing to write home about, even when they made three substitutions, they still could not break down the defense of Benfica.
I think this is the worst match Barcelona has ever played with Benfica and without Messi. In all of their matches against Benfica, they've always gone home with a draw, a perhaps score to beat down Benfica's victory but yesterday's match was a disaster as they could not even score just one goal to prove their existence against Benfica club. It was a terrible night for them and one of their worst matches without Messi.
And sadly true, Messi was their backbone, and now that he is gone, they are a disaster it is sad but the club is broken without Messi and their coach got to do something or his era got to end.
What do you think? Could it be that the club is performing woefully because of the absence of Messi or their coach is the reason behind their poor performance?
