One day, walking in the forest, we came across this little guy:
He was completely trapped in between 2 branches, and his feet were already numb due to the lack of blood circulation in his legs. Fire ants had started attacking him around his anus, and he was just suffering. We didn't know how long he had been there, but he must have been thirsty as well as hungry and exhausted. We had no way of knowing whether he had any broken bones or other injuries.
My husband and I didn't know what to do (and were a bit scared of him biting us!), but we managed to get him out very carefully and brought him home with us. We placed him in a box with some fresh meat and water, but he couldn't even stand up straight. He also didn't want to eat at first.
We decided to leave him like this one night (hoping that he would fly away), but he didn't. Thankfully, the next day we was standing up, and had finished all his meat! This was great news. Since we are no experts in saving these nocturnal hunters, we decided to call the local authorities (Mi Ambiente) to take over for us.
Now he's well, and was able to be released into the wild.
