We Once Knew Each Other
In a time when we could hide
From the chilling wind
That danced on the fields outside,
We hid safe within
Each other's arms like burrowed
Bear cubs sleeping through
Their first winter storm; We sowed
Apple trees that grew
To become our own tempters.
With passion's flame lit,
No cold winds nor ice waters
Could ever be fit
To satisfy youth's carnal
Desires. The swelling
Of her breasts and eternal
Eyes are so telling.
Soft words, not heard, are unspoken.
But those two oceans
Of frigid blue are tokens—
Unfading emotions.
Though years slip by each other,
These words may ring true—
That we once knew each other,
Indeed, we still do.
