The art of self-description belongs to that unique set of skills that will always allude mastery. The difficulty arises from bias, a topic of which any student of an introductory journalism or history course should have an intimate understanding. Bias is the preconceived opinions that an author holds in regards to a topic.
In the case of autobiography, being that the author is also the subject, a writer faces inescapable self-bias. In response to this, a person will inevitably either seek to overstate themselves with blown up descriptions of their talents and achievements or understate who they are with a false front of humility. Since I do not consider myself capable of avoiding either of these difficulties I have instead enlisted my girlfriend’s opinions to direct some basic descriptions of myself (no comment on her bias).
She readily informed me that I share the same personality as Michael Scott from The Office (I don’t know if this is intended as a compliment). She said I am energetic, friendly, and have a difficult time saying no to people. As a result, I rarely have a free moment to myself. However, when I do have free time I spend it reading boring old books and playing music. I also enjoy debating nearly anything, from the monumental to the menial.
I am currently a student studying both economics and history. I am also a modern Christian who will wear my faith on my sleeve and a tentative libertarian. I am a firm believer that disagreement is never an excuse for uncivility, and I value discussions with anyone who has differing views. With that in mind, I hold that respect, genuine pursuit of truth, and basic kindness should be the guiding principles of every discussion. One of the greatest signs of maturity is the ability to disagree without offense.
I first heard about the Steemit community when I began investing in cryptocurrency. I intended to spend my time here developing my writing, sharing some of my work, making some new friends, and hopefully earning a bit of extra cash. I initially intend to share some poems on the platform but with time I hope to expand into some other sections of the platform.
I look forward to getting to know you all! I would love to chat with you in the comments! God Bless!
