For me, smiling and seeing others do the same is fundamental because I value surrounding myself with people who have a good sense of humor and positive energy, with whom I can have a good time and laugh out loud. Although my personality is somewhat serious and a bit reserved, I appreciate having fun and feeling happiness.
I am a person who shows a smile easily and enjoys doing so. Since I was a child, I have been like this, especially with friends and close people, although I tend to open up with strangers who convey trust and have a funny way of expressing themselves, because I really like that kind of people. There are times when I am not in the mood for a little laugh because it is also normal to go through sad emotional states, like crying.
I know well the benefits that a smile brings. When I was a teenager, I became interested in these topics, watched many documentaries, TV programs, and read some articles related to it. Studies always said that smiling every day, even when you don’t feel happy, helps reduce stress and anxiety, besides having favorable effects on physical health, such as delaying the aging of the facial muscles involved in smiling.
A smile will not always be enough to transform the inner world of an individual, especially if they are going through a difficult moment. In this kind of emotional state, no matter how much the person wishes it, satisfaction will not reach their eyes and they will continue to feel sad, which is natural and necessary to some extent. In fact, a smile is often used as a protective or formal mask. However, when a smile is genuine, you see the sparkle in the eyes, and this has a wonderful power to lift the mood and transmit well-being to those who receive it.
In my opinion, those who don’t smile regularly tend to be more serious people or could be going through worries, shyness, or insecurities. Each person responds to life according to their context and personality. Some may see loud laughter as childish or inappropriate. However, I believe genuine laughter, especially loud laughter, reflects carefree happiness. Not smiling is not necessarily negative, but it can indicate someone is facing stress or limitations.
Therefore, I like to laugh. A smile is also a way to build trust, especially in the political and business sectors. When you see a photo of someone smiling, it creates good vibes in the person looking at it; that’s why I really like those kinds of portraits: seeing smiling people makes you smile too.
