my aunty, dad, me and mum on my introduction day.

Thanks to selfhelp4trolls@selfhelp4trolls for these questions let me jump right into it

1 .What role do/did your parents play in your life?

My parents have been my number one support system, the major role they play aside from birthing me is support from when I was a child till date.
I remember growing up we were not the typical rich family but my parents with a combined effort ensured I and my siblings grew up In a stable and lovely environment but unfortunately, because they had to work as hard to provide they were never around, they get home after we had gone to bed and leave before we are awake but most weekends we get to see them and those weekends they made the most out of it with us.

Our communication was sound, we could ask anything and we were taught everything. They somehow were able to balance between being a disciplinary and a cool parent even when they weren鈥檛 so young when they had me.

2.Has your relationship with your parents changed over the years?

Oh yes!!!

There is better understanding and communication. So growing up I enjoyed my parent's company and the support but as much as we could talk about a lot of things, we were still very restricted to a lot more things. As a child I noticed my parents quarrel a lot about certain things that I was never privileged to know about, dad may not come home for days and I would be told he traveled when I knew there was more to it, and dad would call and play the traveling story card with us but deep down we knew something serious must have happened and our parents are just lying to protect us but now I am involved in every quarrel, fight or discussion that happens especially when it involves decision making, the recent one was this holiday when my dad called me to plead with my mum to quit her job for her health, my mum spoke to my sister to tell me to pass the message that she wasn鈥檛 ready.

My sister and I became middlemen for the conversation when we were talking we had to stop and wonder how things have turned out like this that we are being used for important discussion in the house..

we realized that they needed us to grow up first now we are involved we want out!!!馃槀馃槀

3.Is there anything you wish your parents would do 锛坥r would have done) differently?

Yes, my dad especially should have allowed us to make personal decisions for ourselves. When it comes to education, my sister and I were intelligent, the best in our schools and this was possible because my dad was very intentional about our studies. He got us personal lessons teachers and never failed to provide any study material we needed.
It was all amazing and nice of him till it was time for us to pick courses we would love to study in the university.
As a child, he always said my sister would be a lawyer and me an engineer even when we wanted something different. My sister wanted to study English/linguistics because she was a good writer even as a child and I wanted to be an accountant. After all, I was good with numbers but my dad threatened that if we don鈥檛 do the courses he wants us to do he wasn鈥檛 going to pay our fees.

Out of fear, we applied and something funny happened my sister got English instead of law in her first trial, felt like God鈥檚 plan but daddy made her stay home an extra year just to take the exam again but she never got law instead she had to settle for philosophy. I was still in high school when this happened I hope in my time it was different but it wasn鈥檛, the same order of events and now we are both first-class graduates of a course we may never become professionals with.

If only daddy allowed us to choose, well we will never know.

4.How are you similar to your parents?

mummy and me

The major similarity with my dad would be in appearance,And my major similarity with my mum would be her mannerism. I act like my mum a lot, in her act of service, her giving, and her love for God. My sister always says but I ignored cause I would always say I am my person but my husband pointed it out again when he first met her and from his subsequent contact with her.
My mum goes the extra length to please people even when they are not worth the stress and I do that a lot, my mum sacrifices her time and money for other peoples happiness, I do that a lot, she neglected herself and her needs to satisfy others that was me till I knew better.
And my dad is the complete opposite, himself first before anyone else just like my sister 馃槀

5.How are you different from your parents?

I am not so different from my parent, we have the same values and ethics, just the fact that they are from an older generation so they don鈥檛 have access to things I have now and more knowledge about certain issues. That is the major difference I think we have.

6.Do you prefer a more involved relationship with your parents or more distance?

Ooh yes, I enjoy having an involved relationship with my parents, in as much I complain that they shouldn鈥檛 always involve in their petty quarrels and arguments. I kinda enjoy it a lot
It Reminds me how much family means to me.

I am grateful for my parents every day, for their health and their support, in as much as they get me angry most time, make me shout, or just stress me out馃槀. I won't trade them for anything in the world

To Mr. and Mrs. Ibanga Edet, thank you for being amazing parents to us. Thank you for providing the best you could and ensuring we are comfortable. we will forever cherish you, mama, and papa.
