Hello weekend community. My first time participating in the weekend engagement. Childhood memories are amazing memories that stay with us forever but I will be sharing a few with you all.

When I Said My First Word.

As children, we don't fully have vivid memories about some childhood memories but it is certain that we have flashes of a few. Now, have you ever wondered why you cannot remember most of your childhood memories back when you were between 10 - 24 months? I wonder too, because sometimes I would be cracking my head to see if I can remember but I end up with a headache or flashes, but when I was thirteen, I asked my parents about this particular memory. Both my parents laughed at me and recounted some of my funny childhood memories for me, but I guess if they had a video camera or a phone then, probably they would have made a movie for me, like a compilation.

When I said my first word was when I was ten months old. So according to my parents, It was around 10pm, my family members were all gathered in the sitting room watching the ongoing world cup finals, but I had been put to sleep earlier on by my mother. I woke up to the scream of my family members jubilating to a goal scored by the team they supported. They were so loud, celebrating and jubilating that I could sleep back. Behold, I came down from the bed and made my way to the sitting room. My family members saw me and they all froze like that.

I was dressed in nothing but diapers and then I said my first word which was "Jackson". I asked my parents why I said that. They said Michael Jackson (a world famous POP star) was my favorite musician and I always dance to the music whenever it's being played on our stereo.

After I said my first word, I started to dance while I had both of my hands on my hip as I began to sway my hip from left to right. Everyone laughed at me and my dad asked my mother to put on the stereo and play "Bad" by Michael Jackson for me. They all joined me in dancing that night and forgot to watch the rest of the game. That particular dance was the memory I have up till today.

I Dared to use Gillette Razor

Okay, hahah please don't judge, I was so curious and it backfired. I remembered vividly, I was preparing for my entry exam to secondary school then and my dad promised to be around to take me to the exams. Dad was not always around because of work but he promised he was going to be around.

Two days prior to the entry exam, he came as promised bearing lots of gifts and my favorite snacks. Everyone was excited dad was back. So a day prior to my entry exam, in the morning, I saw my dad in the bathroom shaving his head. He prefers to go bald because of his hairline. I have always been curious about his shaving sticks and right there I made up my mind to experiment with his Gillette shaving stick.

My mother has always taken care of my hair and kept it all natural for me. My hair has always been long, fast growing and curly since I was born. Then I decided to experiment with my hair and honestly I don't know what I was thinking then. After my dad had finished shaving and swiftly went into the bathroom without being noticed. I took the shaving stick and placed it close to my edges thinking the razor had been removed and swiped it across the center of my head as a chunk of my hair fell off.

SCREAMS

It wasn't me, it was my mother looking at me from the mirror in front of me. My heart skipped, I looked back at the mirror and what I had done to my lush curly was an abomination. My mother screamed again and said, "What have you done Esther?! My years of grooming your hair are gone?!"

I was so confused that I started crying. My dad came in and saw what I had done. Immediately, he took me to his barber's shop to cut my hair. On our way to his barber's shop I could tell my dad was mad because he loves to play with my hair when I sit with him. We got to the barber's shop and my dad took a newspaper from the barber's work table, put on his glass, his brows furrowed and said to the barber, "remove everything, take everything off, let it be shiny".

I was speechless and that was the longest hours of my life. I cried all through the hair cut. Now whenever I see Gillette shaving sticks I run the other way and settle for waxing. So it is a win win😁. Cheers to all our fond childhood memories πŸ₯‚ πŸ₯‚ πŸ₯‚
