Is it about the journey or the destination?
I’ve always needed change in my life. Even when I was kiddo. Tho, I realized it just recently. I had several hobbies, and I’ve always filled my free time with everything and nothing, something. I got bored really easily, if there wasn’t enough resistance in things and tasks.
I’ve been interested in arts, crafts, poetry, literature, gaming, computers, drawing…. The list continues endlessly. I have never concentrated only in one thing at the time. When I have studied, I’ve always had full time job on a side. There is always some project going on, and if there is none, I get really anxious.
I feel the most relaxed when I’m on the go. It rarely even matters where am I going, it is enough that the landscape is changing constantly. Or at least often enough.
I’ve always wanted to be different, and tried to make a nest of my own. And every time I try, I fail miserable. I just can’t stay put more than a few years. I don’t think I will ever succeed in it. Not in a way is considered ”normal”. The thought of having husband and 2.4 kids, golden retriever and wooden house for rest of my life makes me nauseous. I like the thought of secure and stable life but I also know that it would drive me on the edge. So, for me it is about journey. The destination is irrelevant.
Something that @eveuncovered pointed out made me think. I look happy only in pics where I’m moving, exploring, traveling. When I’m on the go. There is genuine smile on my face and even if things are stressful it doesn’t bother me. The hangover after my holiday/travels/ adventures is legendary. And it is not that I wouldn’t want to work, I do, but also the work and the place need to change often enough that I don’t start to hate it, myself and my profession.
Learning has always given me great joy. I have quite exquisite memory and I mainly use it to storage weird and unnecessary information. When I move and stay busy I learn. I meet new people, I get into new situations, and I learn always something out of them. When I stay in my place too long the learning decreases or stops. And yet again I start to feel restless.
When I hit the point, there is no turning back, I need to hit the road. It is almost like I had some weird gypsy blood in me and I just feel when time is up. I’ve tried to fight it. Oh boy, have I tried. It’s not like I like moving. Actually, I hate packing. But it is also something I need to do in order to keep my sanity.
In my previous post I said I have no post-travel hangover, even when I always get one. There is reason for it. My mind is on the go again. And even if there is no certainty on anything, I feel the excitement and anticipation and it makes me feel alive and almost like I could breath again.
