Road To Olafsvik Iceland

We are off to Iceland on a fly-drive mainly around the ring road. Will be spending 2 nights at Olafsvik (Snaefellsnes Peninsula) and then driving to Akureyri. This looks like quite a drive and was wondering which is the best route? Easiest to drive, best for scenery / attractions etc.

Either along the 54, then south on paved route 60 to rejoin the ring road.

Or along the 54, then north on paved route 60 to Budardalur, across gravel route 59 to Bordeyri, south on paved 61 to Bru & then back on the ring road.
