I have been practicing yoga for the past 4 years, following my first teacher for over a year and since then looking at what other teachers have to bring. Going to seminars and workshops to look into specific details for which there just isn't the time during a standard yoga class.
Following the path of yoga is walking a road of wisdom, an eternal journey of learning.
I started practicing yoga becasue I got really stiff from lifting weights without doing any **corrective stretching**. I fell in love with with the way my body felt adter the first intense class I did, and haven't looked back since.
The first year and a half was in my bedroom, following yoga videos on youtube. My favourite youtube yogi is Lesly Fightmaster, she is a beautiful soul who teaches in a very kind way. She completely tackled the way to teach yoga through videos becasue I learned so much through her and I feel completely at peace having her voice in the background.
I would love to meet her one day :)
I think for many people it is a very good introduction to yoga to start practicing on your own through videos, to learn how to practice on your own, and then to start going to classes so a teacher can put you into the right shape. This way you will have a solid foundation to build upon through the teachings of your new found teacher.
Before I moved to Sofia, the first thing I did was look for a yoga studio, which became studio AMARA. This is where I practiced for the next year with my Indian Japanese teacher Hajime. He taught Sivananda hatha yoga, which is a very peaceful form of classical yoga. By peaceful I am not at all talking about the intensity however, it's all about the intention.
To me this was the best introduction to yoga I could possibly have had, thinking about it.
During this time I went to a couple of workshops with Dylan Werner, along with other teachers, involving vinyasa flow and ashtanga yoga which I both love to practice. The structure of ashtanga helps me a lot , whereas I also love to just move around according to my feelings and expression, and experimenting on the mat, creating a flow to do a couple of round and working into the next flow is something I love to do as well.
Something for a later blog post is my acroyoga journey, which brought me many good things along with the woman I fell in love with :)
Have an amazing weekend and don't forget to stand on your head at least once
