I'm not a huge fan of topics like this as preaching is not my thing but sometimes when too much builds up, it's good to write a post. Maybe I can open some people's eyes and change something. This topic is bothering me in particular as the problem is getting bigger and bigger, or I am just paying more attention to how people behave these days, due to the current situation, which is anything but usual.

These special circumstances we're forced to live under these days make us pay more attention to everything and I see how selfish and ignorant some people can be.

Respect For The Elderly

I see old people with heavy bags struggling to get off or get on the bus on a daily basis and no one is helping them. Younger people are too busy listening to music or checking their phones. They are also too tired to stand on their feet, sitting down, occupying the seats on public transport, so old people have nowhere to sit down. There are a few seats for old people on each bus but those are occupied as those are the best seats.

There were times when people were thought to only sit down if there are plenty seats and when an old person gets on the bus, automatically stand up and let the old people sit down. Those days are long gone, this old habit is not in use anymore.

The Hardest Words

Yes, that's right, there are two words, very difficult to pronounce for many. Contains only eight letters and even so, some are unable to say it. The words I'm referring to is Thank You! Some are ignorant, have never learnt to say thank you when they get something or someone says something nice to them, while others are so selfish they can't even think of sinking so low to say thank you. I see people saying Happy Birthday or get well wishes every day, which is left without being addressed in any way. These think this has to happen and they have no obligation towards the well wishers.

I'm an Etsy seller, a very new one who just started three months ago. I've been working hard on creating products and also advertising them on different social media platforms. Imagine my surprise and joy when I made my first sale.

I'm not familiar yet with the customs on Etsy, but I've seen many fellow sellers on twitter saying they are sending a hand written note to the customer, a thank you note as that is polite. I think so too, it is an act of kindness, so I thought it would be nice to write a letter to the buyer and put it in the box, along with a little gift that I made specially for the buyer, after all, it's a big deal for me when someone likes my products enough to pay for them.

So I wrote a letter, old school, hand written on paper and sent her one on Etsy as well, to let her know I appreciate the purchase and also that the product has been shipped.

The postal worker told me it would take at least two weeks for the package to arrive to the US, so around that time I was waiting anxiously for a feedback from the buyer. Well, it's been a month and a half since than and I haven't heard from the buyer.

Some feedback would have been nice as it would have helped me improve, not to mention it was my first sale, so it would have been my firs review, based on which future customers could base their decision, but I haven't got any. I've seen some sellers messaging buyers, asking them for a review but I would never do that. This has to happen without any influence from my part. Maybe next time.

Hive Is Not Any Different

Hive is no different from real life as those people we meet in real life are the users on Hive. I should say Hive is a community but that is only half true as selfishness is crippling any community heavily.

This is a delicate topic, you can see the selfish side of people very clearly but only if you want to see it. Many are choosing to be blind or just don't care as they are selfish, care only about themselves.

Selflessness is a very important quality that not many have, but is also the main ingredient for a good community. You can choose to be selfish as an individual and live your life without giving back or helping others but as a member of a community, you're nothing more than a rotten apply as you're not contributing to anything or not in a way you should. A good community should be built on trust, reciprocal support and good will.

We all know what's happened when a spoiled rich kid with plenty of money has bought himself a new toy and had no intention to share it with anyone. The vast majority of the users have chosen not be the rich kid's slave and have moved over to another playground. Some have moved to the new playground to build a new place, a better one, while others have hoped they can milk the situation even more. People tend to show their real face when money is involved. I just hope in time some of these selfish people will be left behind and the others will realize selfishness is not the best thing.
