My Father was the same way. He had a tough upbringing and was a golden gloves boxer in the military. He pushed me to the brink of exhaustion sometimes but I can see the value in what he did now.
I think you'd like the kettlebell! It builds strength like nothing I've ever used. 20lb is a good weight to start with. I began with 30lbs but I think my form suffered because that was a little to heavy at first. Now the 30lb one feels light after all these years.
