Arlequin

How are you? I hope you are well, I greet you with joy, it's a new day, I'm happy when a drawing comes out as I want it, it's one of the few times that I don't ruin my design with the background.

My inspiration comes from many things, these days is when I travel to my past, my adolescence, my childhood and I look for little things that surprised me and I liked a lot.

I want to tell you how fanatic I am about music boxes, I had several, I was given them as gifts, when I got married I left my toys at my mother's house and my nieces took possession of them, hahaha! I didn't have daughters, but I had many nieces. The thing is that I always mourn my few toys, I adored them, after my second child, I began to make a small collection of miniature toys, but two years ago when I moved, many were lost, the friends of others.

I was buying some Christmas lights and among the things I saw a little musical box, one of those old ones, many people passed by one side and I adored it, I bought it without thinking twice, besides its price was super economic (1.5 $).

Arlequín



¿Cómo están? Espero que bien, los saludo con alegría es un nuevo día, me contenta cuando un dibujo me sale tal como lo quiero, es una de las pocas veces además que no arruino mi diseño con el fondo.

Mi inspiración proviene de muchas cosas, estos días es cuando más viajo a mi pasado, mi adolescencia, mi niñez y busco cositas que me sorprendían y me gustaban mucho.

Quiero contarles lo fanática que soy de las cajitas musicales, tuve varias, me las obsequiaban, cuando me casé dejé en casa de mi madre mis juguetes y mis sobrinitas se apoderaron de ellas, ¡Jajaja! No tuve hijas, pero si muchas sobrinas. La cosa es que siempre lloro mis pocos juguetes, los adoraba, después de mi segundo hijo, comencé a realizar una pequeña colección de juguetes miniaturas, pero dos años atrás cuando me mudé, se perdieron muchas, los amigos de lo ajeno.

Compraba unas luces de navidad y entre las cosas vi una cajita musical, de esas antiguas, muchas personas le pasaban por un lado y yo la adoré, la compré sin pensarlo dos veces, además su precio era super económico (1.5 $)

I love this musical box, the melody is just what I like to listen to, very old classical music with that characteristic sound so relaxing. When I was a child I spent hours listening to my music boxes while I was doing my homework, I was distracted watching the movement of the dancers.

I always wanted this model, as it spirals in the center while cupid dances around and around, I discovered that it has a magnet so it moves that way.

It seems that I deviated from my design....

Well no, because right here is where the point comes in, I had several dolls, I took good care of them, but they were inherited from my nieces. On the other hand, I remember when I was a child, I used to visit the homes of people with money and I remember that the decoration fashion at that time, they had harlequins sitting on the furniture or on a table, I loved how funny they dressed them with real fabrics. At that time I started taking acrylic painting classes with my sister and we painted harlequin faces, it was one of the many classes.

I always wanted to have harlequins in my house, but I never had the opportunity because they are out of fashion, but I am fascinated by everything retro, everything vintage.

Although the harlequin is considered a clown, the other sense is linked to art and good taste, I found them magical and very cute, made of ceramic head, hands and feet, so they were even delicate.

My work today is a harlequin dressed in winter, in honor of my beautiful memories.

Now I share them with you, because I love to draw and for me to draw is to be a child again, to play with my dolls, with an infinite collection of dresses and accessories. They are my leaps from the adult reality, spaces that I consider necessary to strengthen and continue.

Me encanta esta cajita musical, la melodía es justo la que me gusta escuchar, música clásica muy antigua con ese sonido característico tan relajante. Cuando era niña pasaba horas escuchando mis cajitas musicales mientras hacía mis tareas, me distraía viendo el movimiento de las bailarinas.

Siempre quise este modelo, pues se mueve en espiral el centro mientras cupido baila dando muchas vueltas, descubrí que tiene un imán por eso se mueve de esa manera.




Parece que me desvié de mi diseño...



Pues no, porque justo aquí es donde llega el punto, tuve varias muñecas, las cuidaba mucho, pero fueron herencia de mis sobrinas. Por otro lado, recuerdo cuando niña, visitaba casa de gente con dinero y recuerdo mucho que la moda de decoración en esa época, tenían arlequines sentados en los muebles o en una mesita, me encantaba lo divertido que los vestían con telas reales. Para esa época comenzaba a tomar clases de pintura acrílica con mi hermana y pintábamos rostros de arlequines, eran unas de las tantas clases.

Siempre quise tener en mi casa arlequines, pero nunca tuve la oportunidad pues están pasados de moda, pero a mi me fascina todo lo retro, todo lo vintage.

Aunque el arlequín se considera un payaso, el otro sentido está ligado al arte y buen gusto, me parecían mágicos y muy lindos, hechos de cabeza, manos y pies de cerámica, por lo cual hasta delicados eran.

Mi obra de hoy es un arlequín vestido de invierno, en honor a mis hermosos recuerdos.

Ahora los comparto con ustedes, pues amo dibujar y para mí dibujar es volver a ser niña, jugar con mis muñecas, con una colección infinita de vestidos y accesorios. Son mis saltos de la realidad de adultos, espacios que considero necesarios para fortalecerse y continuar.

Step 1️⃣ / Paso 1️⃣

I spent hours trying to assemble the sketch, I could only achieve it when I divided the design in two, I made one side and then copied and pasted it inverting it on the other side, this way it is neater and I avoid disproportion.

I applied the base color, it is distributed as follows:

It is the same blue color and it seems that it was all in one layer but it is not. If I did it that way I could not create folds or 2D or 3D effect, it will hinder my shading process so, it is distributed in 5 different folders for each sector, the folders contain in their canvas a piece of the dress.

The top of the hair is supposed to be a turban.

Working with the background, I wanted to achieve a moving effect of mountains and castles, I drew and manipulated the opacity, then I reproduced the image and rolled it a bit out of place. If you look at it too much you get dizzy.

To that I applied shading and light.

I moved on to applying the skin shading in acrylic, I always start with the edges and eye sockets, I start with the darkest to the lightest colors.

Pasé horas tratando de armar el boceto, solo pude lograrlo cuando dividí el diseño en dos, hice un lado y luego copié y pegué invirtiéndolo en el otro lado, de es amanera queda más prolijo y evito la desproporción.

Pasé a la aplicación del color base, está distribuido de la siguiente manera: 

Es el mismo color azul y pareciera que fuera todo en una sola capa pero no. Si lo hiciera de esa forma no podría crear pliegues ni efecto 2D o 3D, dificultará mi proceso de sombreado por lo cual, está distribuido en 5 carpetas diferentes para cada sector, las carpetas contienen en su lienzo un pedazo de la vestimenta.

La parte de arriba del cabello, se supone es un turbante.

Trabajo con el fondo, quería lograr un efecto movido de montañas y castillos, dibuje y manipulé la opacidad, luego reproduje la imagen y la rodé un poco de su lugar. Si la miras mucho te mareas.

A ello le apliqué sombreado y luz.

Pasé a la aplicación del sombreado de piel en acrílico, siempre empiezo por las orillas y las cuencas de los ojos, comienzo por los colores más oscuros hasta los más claros.

Step 2️⃣ / Paso 2️⃣

I start blurring with watercolors to integrate the colors of the skin, it is a process that can take many hours.

The particular thing about my latest designs is that I allow for messiness, I allow for imperfection, for bad strokes, bad coloring, I love that look of real paintings. With the first image, I was so pleased with the application of the shading that I thought I would leave it like that, leave it without a face and draw a simple vector... However when I looked at my sketch again, I decided to continue to see where my design will take me and hopefully surprise myself.

I draw the eyes, the eyelashes, the eyebrows, then an iris to reproduce it on the other side.

My doll looks great! I said to myself, I paint and play at the same time. It's even fun because it's something I really enjoy.

Comienzo a difuminar con acuarelas para integrar los colores de la piel, es un proceso que puede tardar muchas horas.

Lo particular de mis últimos diseños es que permito el desorden, permito la imperfección, que queden trazos mal dados, mal coloreados, me encanta ese aspecto de pinturas reales. Con la primera imagen, quedé tan encantada con la aplicación del sombreado que pensé dejarlo así, dejarla sin rostro y dibujar un vector simple... Sin embargo al volver as ver mi boceto, decidí continuar a ver, dónde me llevará mi diseño y espero me sorprenda a mí misma.

Dibujo los ojos, las pestañas, las cejas, luego un iris para reproducirlo del otro lado

¡Mi muñeca luce genial! Me decía, pinto y juego al mismo tiempo. Hasta se hace divertido porque es algo que me gusta muchísimo.

Step 3️⃣ / Paso 3️⃣

I cover the flaws in the eyes with makeup, in the previous step I had applied the base color to the lips, so I took the opportunity to apply the shading on them.

In these steps is that you can see the different layers that I had talked about at the beginning of the post.

I started by applying the shading in a very scratchy and messy way on the clothes, for this I used the rough brush. I repeated this procedure on the following canvases.

I recreated a single flower, which I consider poorly done, and reproduced it several times as a decorative accessory on the turban.

After arranging the flowers, I tried to recreate fabric on the turban, I began to worry that it would get lost and end up getting confused as if it were hair.

My suspicions were true, as I worked with the same palette of 4 colors, the turban became mimic the hair after I applied the details to it. However, I express my deep satisfaction and love for this design. I hope you like it.

Cubro los defectos en los ojos con maquillaje, en el paso anterior había aplicado el color base a los labios, por lo tanto aproveché para aplicar el sombreado en ellos.

En estos pasos es que pueden ver las capas diferentes por las que había hablado al principio de la publicación. 

Comencé por aplicar el sombreado de forma muy rasposa y desordenada en la ropa, para ello usé el pincel áspero. Repetí este procedimiento en los siguientes lienzos.

Recreé una sola flor, considero mal lograda y la reproduje varias veces como accesorio de decoración en el turbante.

Luego de acomodar las flores, trato de recrear tejido en el el turbante, comencé a preocuparme que se perdiera y terminara confundiéndose como si fuera cabello. 

Mis sospechas fueron ciertas, pues trabajé con la misma paleta de 4 colores, el turbante se hizo mimo con el cabello luego que le aplicara los detalles al mismo.  Sin embargo dejo expresa mi profunda satisfacción y amor por este diseño.
