I have wanted to read the holy books of different religions for a long time. As part of the Norwegian education, I have read much in the old and new testaments, but never sat down and read through it all. You learn the general thoughts of the religion, important historical persons and so on. But you never actually have to read threw the holy books. This applies to the Quran aswell. Well... now I got it!
It is translated to English so it really is an interpretation of the Quran. I have already started reading a little. As I expected. Some of the verses are startling. The book is of course not a walk in the park. So, I hope this is something that is not only interesting for me! I do believe posting on it, will make it easier for me to read it.
I am not a religious person. To be quite abrupt, I see a lot of negative aspects with religion. The tribalism created from religion and religious groups, is a real danger. There is no doubt about that. But I also recognize the hope, the energy and the safety it can bring. I also understand how it can be used, and has been used to "construct" good values and opinions. For example, as The Bible says "Thou shalt love thy Steemians as thyself".... Or did i get that one wrong? mhm...
Anyways, it can also be used to construct the total opposite. I will share good verses as well if I find them. At the moment, though, I’m astonished how many times the book has told me that I am going to burn in hell for eternity.
Knowledge on different cultures and religions are more important than ever. And this is the reason I want to read the different holy books.
Maybe when I’m done I will give a personal view on the book and my experience reading it (if its wished by you guys reading this). For me it’s very interesting, but will require a good amount of time and thought to produce, but if it’s something someone would be interested in reading, comment :)
I will try to keep it around 2 posts weekly on the subject. At least that’s the plan, but it might change depending on how fast i read etc.

Surah 2 Al-BAQARAH THE HEIFER
178: O ye who belive! The law of equality is prescribed to you in cases of murder: The free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. But if any remission is made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude; This is a concession and a Mercy from your Lord. After this whoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty
Surah 2
191: And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the sacred Mosque, unless they first fight you there; but if they fight you, Slay them. Such is the reward of those who supress faith
192: But if they cease, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most merciful
221: Do not marry unbelieving women (idolators), until they belive: a slave woman who belives is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she is alluring to you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelivers until they belive: a man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he appeals to you. Unbelievers do beckon you to the fire. But Allah beckons by his grace to the garden and forgiveness, and makes his signs clear to mankind: that they may celebrate his praise
222: And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."
228: Divorced women remain in waiting for three periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have more right to take them back in this [period] if they want reconciliation. And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority]. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
