As a human, it is of utmost necessity to plan for the future to avoid any form of discomfort in old age. retirement is something that eventually happens to everyone, at least those in the labour market. It is measured differently depending on the organisation policy, most times it depends on a particular age, which you are no longer considered eligible or fit to work. some organisations support their retirees with funds and others continue to pay such funds for period of time while others don't. this are the kind of things a worker needs to put in consideration while planning for retirement.
Life is full of a lot uncertainties, which makes even the most well laid plan not work sometimes. I have always been of the perspective that if things should go my way I wouldn't have to work till retirement sets in. I have always been a business oriented person right from childhood started a livestock farm at the age of 17 with the help of my family. despite being knowledgeable in the field of mass communication with a lot of disciplines attached to it such as advertising, journalism, public relations e.t.c
At some point before deciding to study mass communication, I had passion for journalism, I made effort to make sure it worked out to the extent that I became a News sub-editor at a broadcast station called Lagos traffic radio during my industrial training. eventually an incident happened which made me lose interest in the profession entirely. still went ahead to furthermore by acquiring my Higher National Diploma in mass communication but journalism was no longer in the picture.
Based on this over the years I took a business approach rather than focusing on a specific professional career or job. still awaiting to get mobilised for NYSC but if eventually I find myself doing a job it wouldn't be for a long term deal, the primary focus would be to raise more funds to develop my livestock business among many other things.
it might take me longer to raise the kind funds probably till retirement but the goal still remains the same because as I'm working, simultaneously I'm also investing in livestock business and the moment the business becomes sustainable to my satisfaction that will be the end of my time in the labour market. which means even before I eventually starts working my retirement plan is already in motion.
When I say livestock farm, it has a lot of divisions. presently I have a rabbit farm which started from just raring a couple of rabbits, I have always dreamed to expand to other types of livestock animals/ poultry animals but presently I don't have the space or work force to achieve that which will only become possible with additional funds.
The plan is to get a job eventually, keep investing in it till it becomes large enough, probably when I quit working or retire, which ever the case may be. it will be what I will fall back on among many other business projects I have in mind.
