Christmas seasons are full of goodies, another one is almost by the corner. I remember my childhood days. in my local community, Christmas is a season that can easily be identified with the availability of meat. Those days I didn't really know the calendar, because I was very young however, when I saw people slaughtering animals, I could tell what month and day it was.
My mom happens to be someone who does things ahead of time. She doesn't like things catching up with her unexpectedly, I don't know if you understand, for instance, if she's traveling tomorrow, what she often does is arrange her things today or yesterday. I am so glad I picked that attribute from her, though it can be so frustrating.
My mom is among those women who buy Christmas clothes for their children some months before December. Yeah! Most times around September or October our clothes are already on the ground. Those days she would call us and say "Come and check these clothes if they are okay, they belong to my brother's son in the village, you and the boy have the same height and body structure, I want you to wear them so that I can verify if they are okay or not."
I already know my mom with that attitude, so each time she asks me try try clothes out, I already know they are mine, The next thing is to go about setting the hearts of other kids on fire by telling them my mom has bought Christmas clothes for me. Only God knows the kind of war I caused with such news those days. At night I don't sleep, every hour I wake up, I go to mom's box to check if the clothes are still there or not. I know most of you did the same thing, so, stop staring at me like I am the only one in this.
Something just hit me right now, I wish it were possible for all of us to post our childhood Christmas pictures, let's see all the slay queens and kings in the house during their prime. I know you are blushing right now. Don't worry I have your backs, I won't tell anyone. Just wanted to tell you that you really look good in glasses these days.
Let's Talk About Christmas Meats
In my house, Christmas meats are usually fried, some days before Christmas. My mother being a very wise woman always hides the meat in her room when we are not around. I could relate to her reason very well because I am not different from a mouse when it comes to meat. In fact, most times, if she discovers that the meat is scenting too much she takes it from the said location to another corner because her nose is super sensitive. It's one of my supernatural abilities oh! You didn't know I have superpowers right?
During one of those Christmas periods, mama prepared meat, fried it very well, and brought it into the room to hide it as usual. Behold I was in the room that morning. When I perceived the smell of the meat, I quickly feigned to be asleep. At first, when she saw me, she wanted to go back but when she looked closely and thought I was sleeping, she decided to hide the meat on top of the bag of groundnut she bought recently.
I was just praying for her to go out, she checked and checked and I was still sleeping before her eyes. Immediately she went out, I opened my eyes and climbed that groundnut bag that was at least three times as tall as I was. When I got to the top, behold the meat. I sat down comfortably and ate the parts I selected and then arranged the meat very well. The reason why I executed the action as fast as that was because I overheard Mom saying, I am going to the market. What an opportunity you know.
I finished my mission successfully, now it's time to come down but there was no way. It was then my eyes opened and I realized how tall that bag was. I did all I could to come down to no avail. While I was struggling, Mom just entered the room. Aahhhhh! The meat I was still chewing fell into my mouth.
"What are you doing up there," she asked angrily. Friends, I had no answer, she asked the second time and I just smiled and said "Mama I ate meat." I believe you know what transpired next.
