The way to the top is very easy. It only requires you to be a man who does not join the band-wagon. A man who will get to the top in the world must be ready to do more than he's paid for. Only few people are doing it. Many peeple want to be sowing the seed of inadequate service and be expecting to reap full grown pay. They want to sow sparingly to reap abundantly. This is against the law of sowing and reaping. He who sows sparingly will definitely reap sparingly, while those who sow abundantly will reap abundantly. Going the extra mile in a j ob, whether great or small, is a sure way to climb the ladder to the top, in any enterprise.
law of sowing and reaping say: "He who sow sparingly will reap sparingly and those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully"
When we were young, we were always told a fable that there was a pit of gold at the end where the rainbow landed, that anyone who could manage to get there would never know poverty in life. We always tried to venture into going there. It was one time the true meaning of the fable was known. The true interpretation of it is that: if one can learn to do more than he is paid or expected, the habit will promote him above others, with high dividends.
The height that great men teacher and kept were not attained by sudden flight but they, while their companion slept were busy toiling upward in the night.
The end of the rainbow can be reached only by those who do ordinary thing in an extra-ordinary way. A story was told of a teacher who was very diligent in his work. He taught in one public secondary school. The habit was: 'you don't do government work and sweat'. Meaning, you don't have to stress yourself too much in government's business.
The habit made many teachers to do inadequate work. The man was an exception. He did not wait for anyone to supervise him before he worked. He taught his subject with little or no supervision.
One day, fortune recognized and located him. The government officials from the State Ministry paid an impromptu visit to the school. They met the teacher busy working, among the students. The government officials checked his work, and they found him to be conscientious, working thoroughly and naturally in the school. He marked the students' work up to date. He gave assignments without fear or favour. The work of the teacher was found to be extra-ordinary. They saw him as a worker that, went extra-mile in discharging his official assignment very rare in public schools.
He got the dividends of going extra-mile that day. The government officials ordered him that he should meet them in the State Ministry of Education the following day. He was told to bring along with him his Curriculum Vitae and other credentials he had.
The following day he arrived there, he was offered a position higher than that of a secondary school teacher, with higher pay, than what he was earning as a class teacher.
The casual observers who were working with him might have said earlier that he was wasting his time, while working diligently. Those who might be thinking or saying such were left at the lower level. He moved to the greater height.
We should stop talking about 'privileges’, 'luck', etc. We should rather imbibe the spirit of assuming greater responsibilities. The man was not only elevated to higher position with higher dividend, he became a celebrity. The news of his diligent attitude was broadcast to all the nook and cranny of his state.
The habit of doing more than what a man is paid earns a worker greater dividends. We should not see it as a waste of time and energy in doing more than it is expected of us. The law of sowing and reaping will surely work unfailingly for diligent workers, to reward them with bumper harvest.
