I don't know where the week went, we're already in the second half of it. Last week was back to back deadlines and I had to complete everything by 2pm on Friday as I had a girl's weekend away with my friend Zainy. It's been something I was looking forward to for a while as I only get to see her every couple of months and it's seldom that we have solid time together as her daughter is with her most weekends.

She and I have a lot in common and our personalities are very similar. We're both pretty skeptical people with a dark, dry sense of humour, so put us in a room together and we are our own entertainment.

It was a couple hours drive but that went by really quickly and we spent the first evening just talking shit, laughing and catching up.

She's a designer and has her own t-shirt printing business which keeps her super busy. A few years ago she gave up her 9 to 5 day job and funneled all of her resources into it. When she talks about it, her entire face lights up and you can just hear the passion that lies behind her words. It's wonderful to watch. She offered to show me how she does full sublimation print vinyl transfers and walked me through each step. I didn't realise what it entailed until then. It was so much fun and apart from learning some pretty nifty tricks from her, we got to mess around with some designs together over drinks and wood-smoked pork belly for dinner. It was freaking amazing food and the overall atmosphere was just so homely and warm.

I suppose having the commonalities that we do makes all the difference. We ended the visit with breakfast and great coffee at a local diner overlooking the sea. She's got a huge t-shirt order coming in soon that she's going to enlist my help in and I'm already looking forward to it.

After such an awesome break, I plunged back into work and yesterday I received an accolade from one of my clients. Something I wasn't expecting, but it was a really pleasant surprise It's always nice to be appreciated for the work you do, especially when you go above and beyond the average to exceed expectations. It made me feel immensely proud.

It's been great to have some healthy balance again between work and play. Something I've neglected for a long time because life just gets in the way sometimes, but this last week has shown me that it's necessary and fulfilling, but more importantly, it's enjoyable. I think we all need that every now and again.
