Growing up as kids, there is always that one thing we always want to become when we grow up where some people are privilege to achieve theirs while majority dont really achieve the dream due to one thing or the other. Those who are privilege to achieve their dreams are those whose background are stable financially or probably have the connect to secure the position or dream needed.
photo is mine
This lack of achieving a desired dream mostly occur in Africa where poverty is the main cause of why some dreams are not fulfilled and also lack of job opportunities is also another reason why some people find themselves doing another job just to survive instead of working in the field of what they study in school.
When i was a kid, i have passion for football and the main dream of what i wanted to become was to be a goalkeeper. It might look strange to go for such position in football when there are so many other positions to play but then it was my preferred choice. The passion of becoming a goalkeeper all started in the bedroom where i will just throw my pillow up then dive to catch it.
I really saw it as fun when i dive to catch the pillow i throw up that i even intend going higher to dive. This motivates me more that when i play football with my friends i always want to be the goalkeeper in other to impress my friends with my skillful dives lol. During my primary school days, i have writing essays on what I wanted to become that i choose goalkeeper as a dream choice.
This dream have been part of me that i realize it might not be possible anymore due to my family financial capability. This was well known to me during my secondary days where i was not capable of buying gloves and boots and my parents cant afford to get it for me either. I still didnt want to give up on the dream but because i dont have my own kits in playing was what made me to step down completely.
This time i choose not to make it a dream anymore but to play the game as fun. My dream goalkeepers as of then where Dida, Casillas, Van Der Sar and Buffon. I always love seeing this goalkeepers on pitch because they motivate me with how they save and cordinate players at the back.
I eventually got boots and gloves for myself when I was working and by then i I was done with school. Like i said earlier, i didnt take the dream anymore as finances was a major issue but this time i only accepted to play the game for fun.
The photo above was when i was doing my youth service(NYSC) in kano, a state in the nothern part of nigeria and to be sincere i was the best keeper of that tournament. unfortunately we lost 1-0 in the final but I was announced to be the best goalkeeper which still gives me joy till today and the joyful part was that i conceded only one goal in the tournament which happens to be in the final.
However, i still wish i was a professional goalkeeper but the opportunity of securing it wasnt there. No regrets though as God knows best but the dream i wished never came through.
