¿Te imaginarias que este corto fue inspirado en un hecho real? El creador de "Lava", James Ford Murphy, no tuvo mejor idea que llevar al cine la historia del músico Israel Kamakawiwo'ole y su esposa Marlene Ah Lo.
HISTORIA
Israel, fue un músico muy famoso en la isla y se hizo conocido gracias a su gran talento con el ukelele y por ser un gran activista por los derechos humanos de los hawaiianos.
También llamado en Hawaii como IZ, contrajo matrimonio con Marlene, quien era su novia desde la secundaria. Pero debido a problemas que padecía por su obesidad, Israel de apenas 38 años falleció a causa de un ataque al corazón.
Iz fue tan popular en su tierra natal que a su funeral asistieron más de 10 mil personas y su ataúd guarda reposo en el edificio del Capitolio hawaiiano.
Fue entonces que Ford Murphy luego de visitar la isla de 'Iz' para su luna de miel, quedo enamorado del lugar que tiempo después tras escuchar la canción de Kamakawiwo'ole titulada "Somewhere over the Rainbow", decidió hacerle un merecido homenaje.
Así fue que Ford dio vida a Uku y a Lele, los volcanes que protagonizaron la historia en "Lava". Asimismo, creó la letra de la música y utilizó algunos rasgos de 'Iz' y Marlene para los personajes.

HISTORY
Israel, was a very famous musician on the island and became known for his great talent with the ukulele and for being a great activist for the human rights of the Hawaiians.
Also called in Hawaii as IZ, he married Marlene, who was his girlfriend since high school. But due to problems suffered by his obesity, Israel of only 38 years died of a heart attack.
Iz was so popular in his native land that his funeral was attended by more than 10 thousand people and his coffin is resting in the building of the Hawaiian Capitol.
