Thanks to the coffee group, we are trying out different coffee houses, which is no hardship! Today, we called in at the Bird Cage Cafe, which is situated on a busy road going into my local town.
I've driven past it many times, and it always looked very popular even though it's not in a prime location.
We found a parking spot down a side street, so we didn't have far to walk. We received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff.
There's inside and outside seating, but we decided to sit inside as it was a bit too hot outside. You can't win with the weather at the moment.
Inside was quite trendy looking without it being intimidating to the ... erm ... older customer. There was a bar if you fancied an alcoholic drink, but it was far too early for me.
We ordered eggs florentine, which was a work of art in itself.
We also had a regular latte and a latte with oat milk. I find oat milk the best of the non-dairy milk as it's quite creamy.
The only little gripe I had was something I saw on their website. It said it was accessible for wheelchair users. There was a small step at the front, and I know the staff will assist anybody to get in. It still needs to be a level entrance before it is classed as truly wheelchair friendly. Disabled people should be able to get in under their own steam. I daren't take a photo, otherwise, they'd be onto me!
Anyway, it was still a really enjoyable visit. The food was the best I've had for a while, and the coffee was great, too. We left to let 'Dorothy and friends' have their pre-booked table at 1.00 pm. I hope they enjoy it as much as we did. We will definitely make a return visit.
