We drove to a little hamlet called Heathcote near Hartington in Derbyshire.
At Heathcote Mere there used to be a well that supplied the villagers with water.
At the mere, packhorses used to drink from it as they transported goods and minerals such as coal and salt throughout England.
Folklore has it that traveller's children were christened in the mere.
Today the mere attracts wild life such as herons, coots, ducks, newts and spring flowers.
It would make a lovely place to have a picnic.
