People with OCD most of the times are being mocked -as if everyone else is totally fine and acts absolutely normal but anyways. One person though, managed to turn her obsession into business and a global empire... She managed to persuade so many people -even I fall in her "trap"- that her way, is the right way...
I'm talking about Marie Kondo. A tidying expert (oh please), best-selling author (oh cool), star of Netflix's show "Tidying Up With Marie Kondo," and founder of KonMari Media, Inc (oh wow).
She says that she was enchanted with organising since her childhood and began her tidying consultant business as a 19-year-old university student in Tokyo. This is exactly where the difference between a business mind and a not business mind at all lies; you have the KonMari Media Inc and the KonElia nothing.
I love tidying, I love organisation, I love everything she loves but she is more clever than me. She is more clever than anyone who shares the same OCD. Why? Because she managed to give a name to her obsession; the "KonMari Method™". Her method mainly suggests keeping only those things that speak to your heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy. And I agree 100% with her. A decluttered space is more peaceful and inspirational.
She also suggests her own folding method/technique. Rather than haphazardly laying things flat in a drawer, they should stand upright. While the space-saving benefits are pretty far-reaching, Kondo’s other objective is to grant clothes the respect they deserve by touching, appreciating, and properly storing each item.
I won't lie to you, the temptation to organise and fold my clothes her way was too strong. However in order to follow her method, you need to have drawers, not shelves, and I lack of them. So I went to play with my mum's drawers. She seemed a bit hesitant in the beginning but I persuaded her that I would transform her closet and I would create some more space.
The decluttering and folding lasted for 6 hours! After 3 hours I was not showing so much respect or gratitude to the clothes while I was folding them and my mum was like "Oh my God how many clothes do I have? I will give everything away". So the decluttering part was going great but the folding part not so well. Long story short, we managed to accomplish the KonMari mission but our back was killing us and our nerves were shot.
The funnier part is that this folding technique did not work well. After a month my mum told me that the "KonMari Method" sucks as she couldn't recognise which t-shirt was which and in order to find the one she wanted she had to unfold all the same coloured ones. So my poor mum put everything back the way they were..
This is when we realised that there is no other tidying expert but ourselves. So dear Kondo, maybe you can easily "manipulate" the messy ones but you cannot do the same with another OCD pro.
