In one of those typical gatherings where you're supposed to talk with people you like as well as with people you don't like or you're not in the mood to talk with, a friend's friend told me something that left me speechless.
We were having a "deep" conversation about housework and I admitted that I find joy in regular housework. This is when this friend's friend replied in the most unexpected way; "Oh my God so you are doomed to live forever without a maid"! (Like I'm doomed to live the rest of my life as a prisoner).
Xcuse me?!?! First of all I would actually be doomed if I wanted a maid and I couldn't afford one or if I couldn't find one. When you don't want something, living without it is just fine, not a curse. In fact a maid would be a nightmare for me. Why? Well because I want things to be done my way, because I want no one in my house and because I would be ashamed to ask her to do anything.
Even if having a maid was obligatory, I know for sure that I would be doing all the work on my own and I would kindly ask her to sit comfortably in the couch, drink her coffee and watch TV till I finish everything. So in that case I would be paying someone for doing nothing. And in an ideal world that would be amazing but in this world such thing cannot happen.
I tried to explain it in every possible way but that woman didn't seem to understand, or wanting to understand. Something that at the end of the day was none of her business. Typical 5 year old way of thinking; "if I want a maid, then everybody should want a maid". Nuh-uh. No. Me want no Consuela.
