This prompt just made me remember my uncle and a helpless widow in my village.
Growing up, I knew this widow in my village. She had two toddlers then and survives only by her vegetable business. The house she lived in then, was in a terrible situation. Every time I walk past her house, I couldn't help but look at the walls and roof and wonder how they manage whenever it rains.
Sometimes I imagined how peaceful and happy it would be for her to sleep without worrying that the house might collapse on them one day. I always felt bad about it because I know exactly what I would have done if I had the money, but I couldn't do anything because I didn't have the money for that.
If money wasn't a problem, then she would be living in a comfortable bungalow because I would have made sure of that. And also I would have helped her establish a better business than the vegetables business she was doing.
I wouldn't give her a temporary solution, I would have given her a tangible business that will make her stand on her own.
Another reason I think this way, is because of the past experience I had in my family few years ago. I think 2024, I lost my dearest uncle because of money issues. We couldn't raise enough money for his kidney transplant and memory has never really left me.
It wasn't just the pain of loosing him, but the painful thought that maybe we couldn't have lost him if we had the money required for the transplant. It's so painful watching someone you love die, just because you can't afford the required money they need for treatment. I know I can't save anyone, but even if I could save one family from experiencing what mine went through, then it would be really satisfying to me.
If money was never my problem, I would set up a foundation that help people who cannot afford a life saving medical treatment. No family deserve to see someone they love die, just because they couldn't pay the hospital bills.
I will also invest in education. Honestly there are very brilliant children whose dreams ended because their parents couldn't afford their school fees. I have seen many young and vibrant youth give up their dreams because they lacked opportunities. I would sponsor students, provide learning materials and create scholarships for children that cannot pay their fees so that financial hardship would no longer decide their future.
Infact if money wasn't my problem, I wouldn't want to be remembered only by how much I worth, I would want to be remembered by how many people slept peacefully because I helped them, how many families stayed together because they could be treated, and how many people achieved their academic pursuit.
To me, that would be a life truly worth living.
