Hey dear Hive community, I hope you had a nice weekend and I also wish you a good start to the new week! In my new post, I would like to present you to some pictures that I have taken for the #monomad challenge.
The topic I choose are plants and recently during one of my walks I discovered Granny's bonnets or Common columbine which also bears the botanical name Aquilegia vulgaris. Some time ago I already created a post about it and who should be interested can find it here. Compared to the old post, the flowers have now also shown and I am happy to present the pictures to you!
The genus name Aquilegia is probably derived from the Latin word auquila, which means eagle, but its origin is not entirely clear. There are other views that say that the name derives from the Greek word Aglaia, which means splendor. In Greek mythology, the goddess Aglaia is one of the three Charites, who was probably married to the god of blacksmiths and fire Hephaistos. The other two Charites were Thalia and Euphrosyne and they are also referred in Greek mythology as goddesses of grace and are also equated with the three grace from Roman mythology.
Back to Common columbine, also the well-known universal polymath from the Middle Ages Hildegard of Bingen has probably already described Aquilegia vulgaris and addressed the medical properties, which I have already explained in my other post. By the way, Aquilegia vulgaris is also associated with the planet Venus and in Greek mythology the plant is connected with the goddess of love Aphrodite, the equivalent of her in Roman mythology is Venus.
