How birds survive the cold season depends entirely on the species and some species of migratory birds are known to fly in warmer regions such as Africa and some species only travel shorter distances to avoid the cold periods and go to places where there is still enough food. Each species flies different routes and have developed sophisticated strategies to be able to orient themselves and have also developed a kind of calendar to know when they were flying back and additionally a kind of map to find the route. The signal for migratory birds to go to warmer regions is usually the lack of food and depending on the area, about half of all species are migratory birds and they are able to fly several thousands of kilometers. Birds also have an increased need for food in winter and therefore often eat a lot of weight even before the cold hours and in addition, birds have difficulty finding food in their regions in winter, as most plants are hidden under the snow and the insects are absent. Most birds search sheltered places such as trees or bushes and have developed some tactics to get through the cool months well and some birds can fluff up their fur and during the day they can also store sun rays to warm up better. You can also help to support birds and hang bird houses where they can hibernate and in addition, food houses are very useful and it is important that they are dry inside so that the food does not get wet and are cleaned regularly and also insect balls can be of interest to support the little friends.
