"Gold Bars" - A Poem

The bars are gold
They hold so tight
They warn in whispers
When you sleep each night
I see your smile
Has not been real
Has not been yours
For quite some time
And you long
For what was yours
Before
They bound you to a lie
Diamond encrusted padlocks
Make it hard
To use the door
When the hopelessness
Sinks deeply
You fight but lose
The will
To rise
From the floor

This one was inspired by an article I read about a woman who married (not entirely voluntarily) into an extremely wealthy and powerful family. I don't know the full story but it seems like a difficult life even in the midst of all that luxury. But feel free to share what this poem brought to your mind as well.

Peace ☮️.
