Hello Splinter Fanatics!
One thing I really like about Splinterlands is the possibility of creating countless combinations with different strategies. Of all the strategies, the ones I like the most are those focused on high speed, because attacking first gives you a better chance of winning, while also increasing the chances of dodging attacks.
To achieve this, one of my favorite strategies is to combine two cards: Commander Slade and Zarin the Scorch. While the famous Water reward tank naturally has high speed and evasion abilities, Zarin grants the Phase ability, which allows the monster to dodge magic damage. In addition, Zarin has the Slow ability, which makes the opponent even slower.
Although my collection is mostly made up of Reward cards, I always rent cards that I find interesting to complement my strategies. Zarin the Scorch is a monster from the Dragon Splinter that was part of the conflicts of the Conclave Edition. In general, these cards are designed to be more powerful than the base collection.
There is no doubt that this is a very versatile monster. Although it has low HP, its many abilities compensate for this weakness. Below, I list this monster's abilities and how I use them, since they can be useful in several different situations.
This ability makes all enemy monsters slower by (+1).
This ability grants the Phase ability to the monster directly behind Zarin the Scorch. Combined with Slow, it is excellent for fast monsters, allowing them to take advantage of their ability to dodge magic damage.
This ability hides the monster until it reaches the first position. It is very useful because this monster has low HP.
This ability removes negative effects from monsters in the backline, one effect per round.
This ability deals damage to the cards adjacent to the monster that was attacked.
Lately, I have been using this monster together with fast monsters to take advantage of the Phase Ward ability. In the following battle, I show this strategy, where I combine Commander Slade + Zarin the Scorch.
The battle had 40 mana available, with all Splinters available except Life and Death. The active ruleset was Standard, meaning that there were no special battle rules.
Actually, I prefer battles with a ruleset because they make it easier to decide which cards to use and which strategies to follow.

In the first round, we can see both players' lineups. The opponent chose a very offensive lineup, especially with the Lorkus summoner, which increases melee and magic damage by (+1).
But none of that matters if you attack first.
Even so, I have a lot of confidence in the Akane summoner because it grants the Ambush ability to two monsters, which is a great advantage in a speed-focused strategy.
So, I chose the monsters with the highest damage: Shock Trooper and Kelan Gaines.
At the end of the battle, we did not lose a single monster on the field. This shows that our strategy worked very well.
The enemy monsters were defeated, and the combination of Commander Slade + Zarin the Scorch was very interesting.
This was an amazing battle using Zarin the Scorch. After using this card several times, writing this post also helped me understand it better.
