In my country, Venezuela, it is common to ask for a blessing from elders. It’s a tradition whose origins I’m not entirely sure of, though it is likely Christian. My daughters attend a Catholic school.

Some customs vary depending on the family. Recently, my father called me via video; he’s living in Spain. When greeting my daughters, he noticed they didn’t ask for his blessing and asked, "Why don’t they ask for my blessing?"
Hay costumbres que cambian dependiendo de la familia. Estos días, mi papá me hizo una videollamada; él está viviendo en España. Al saludar a mis hijas, notó que no pedían la bendición y me preguntó: "¿Por qué no piden la bendición?"
I responded that I haven’t instilled that habit in them. Although it’s something I practice, I haven’t placed much importance on it when teaching values to my daughters. However, they do eat a variety of foods that people my age or older often don’t, and that’s something I’ve deliberately emphasized.

My mother taught me to eat everything, and I eat food as it is served. While I have my preferences, I’ve come to understand that eating isn’t about separating flavors but enjoying them together.

Customs are just that: customs. They provide us with common ground in our environment, whether through religious practices, eating habits, accepted behaviors, or interactions with others.
Las costumbres no son más que eso: costumbres. Nos brindan puntos en común con nuestro entorno, ya sean factores religiosos, hábitos alimenticios, conductas aceptadas o interacciones entre individuos.
Teach values that enrich your children—those you believe are important—but make sure they truly hold value.
Enseña valores que aporten a tus hijos, los que consideres adecuados, pero que realmente tengan valor.
