Josie looked at the time and it read 6 o'clock. She couldn't believe how much time she had wasted in the market purchasing a few items.
"Let's go" she dragged her little cousin, "it's late and I hope we pass the bushy road path before the sun goes down".
Josie was 16, every Thursday she and her cousin go to the neighboring village to get some foodstuffs for the week before another market day. She had walked around the market in search of locust bean that she lost consciousness of time.
"I hate to pass that path while it's dark" she grumbled, gathering the few items they've bought into a basket.
She walked hastily hoping her little cousin will catch up with her who was walking sluggishly despise the few loads she carried. Subsequently, she waited for her, urging her to walk a bit faster. Fear gripped Josie when she noticed the path was lonely, thoughts started flashing in her mind, she furrowed her eyebrows, her feet suddenly grew cold as she shivered. *"Kate" *, she called in a soft tone, and when her cousin approached her, she collected the load adding them to hers hoping it will make them walk faster.
It was nightfall, silence filled the thick woods, except for the howling of owls. Josie's eyes widened at the sight of shadows, her breath heightened, her heart now beating faster, and her adrenaline rushed. She increased her pace, but Kate, her little cousin seemed to slow her down, she was careful about shouting, so she kept dragging her by the arms. "God please help me" she prayed. She had always been careful not to get carried away with the excitement in the market to forget time, but today was totally what she couldn't explain.
The howling and chirping of birds grew loathsome, her feet became heavy, and when she felt like she couldn't walk dreaded by darkness, it began to rain.
"Kate let's run" she suggested.
She covered the basket tightly and ran steadily hoping she do be out of the forest soon. The thought of danger elude her mind as she ran through the thick woods, all she wanted to do was to get home safe from the rainfall. Soon they were out from the scary road path, she could feel footsteps approaching them, then saw a man holding a lamp who seem to be searching for something or someone.
"Josie, is that you,?" He asked
She recognizes the voice, it was her dad who had come scouting after them.
