When speaking of many topics you will inevitably run into a statement based around popularity. It could be simply that the majority of people do not believe a thing. It could also be that it is not peer reviewed and agreed with.
This post is short and to the point. While those things COULD be factors it is important to remember...
This means if something is FALSE the fact that 99% or even 100% believe it is true WILL NOT suddenly make it TRUE.
If something is TRUE then 99% or even 100% believing it is false WILL NOT suddenly make it FALSE.
If 1% or 0.000001% of the people state the TRUTH, then the fact the remainder of the people do not believe it does not make it FALSE.
Appeals to Popularity, and Appeals to Authority are both logical fallacies.
While it is worth considering opinions, it is also important to remember they do not DICTATE truth.
Truth is NOT a Democracy.
