The Problems of the Poor and the Exploitation of Manual Workers

Poverty is one of the major problems facing many people in Nigeria today. Many poor people struggle every day to provide food, shelter, clothing and education for themselves and their families. Unfortunately, some rich people take advantage of these poor people, especially manual workers who have little or no formal education. This situation is unfair and has made life more difficult for the poor.

One of the major problems faced by poor people is unemployment. Many people do not have good jobs, so they accept any work they can find just to survive. Some work as farmers, cleaners, bricklayers, mechanics, and domestic workers. Despite their hard work, the money they earn is often not enough to meet their daily needs. Because they desperately need money, some employers pay them very little and expect them to work for long hours.

Another problem is illiteracy. Many manual workers cannot read or write properly because they did not have the opportunity to attend school. Some rich people use this weakness to cheat them. For example, an employer may refuse to pay a worker the agreed amount because the worker cannot read or understand written agreements. Some workers are also denied their rights because they do not know the laws that protect them.

Furthermore, many manual workers work under dangerous conditions without proper safety equipment. They may work on building sites, farms, or factories without enough protection. If they get injured, their employers may refuse to take responsibility for their treatment. This shows how some people value money more than human life.

The government should take serious steps to protect manual workers. Employers who cheat their workers should be punished. Free education and adult literacy programmes should also be provided to help people learn how to read and write. In addition, workers should be educated about their rights so that nobody can easily deceive them.

In conclusion, poverty and illiteracy are serious problems that make manual workers vulnerable to exploitation. It is unfair for the rich to use their wealth and the ignorance of others to treat them badly. Every worker deserves respect, fair wages, and good working conditions, regardless of their educational background. If Nigerians work together to fight poverty, improve education, and promote fairness, our society will become a better place for everyone.
