Yes, just a nice salad, a fresh, light, healthy dish full of vitamins and good things. It's very easy to make because you don't really have to cook anything, so it doesn't seem like I'm going to share a spectacular haute cuisine recipe with you.
It seems that when we don't know what to eat, or we don't like to cook or we just don't have time, we think of something like this, simple and uncomplicated, just a salad.
There are those who prefer to go or look for a simple solution, they resort to "fast food", we go to a nearby place on the corner and for some money in a few minutes we have a plastic or cardboard container with something precooked or overcooked, with perhaps what things . From time to time in some case it is possible, but can you really feed yourself with this type of food?
We certainly already know everything that they usually contain, well not everything, but we do know about many of their ingredients that do not bring us health at all: saturated fats, hydrogenated fats, sugar and more sugar, the most refined salt and with fewer nutrients, preservatives of those with strange names and many numbers, sodium glutamate that in the end fill us up for a while and then even cause some addiction. Why not opt for other things?
In the day to day we have little time and little desire to cook or prepare real food, some people do "bathcooking" that is, on Sunday they usually cook and leave several dishes prepared. And there are those who have decided to take a few minutes to eat better.
And it is not so complicated, if we make the purchase with a head and organize ourselves. And for those days in a hurry, well, just a salad, why not?
I love salads, not only in summer, which is when we most want them, all year round. It is also easy to vary, just by changing some of the ingredients, spontaneously with what we have in our kitchen we can play, combining different foods and creating new versions.
Although there are always classics. The usual one based on lettuce and tomato, to which we then add more and more based on what we have left in the fridge or pantry.
- The lettuce or in its case tender sprouts that they sell is already the option of a lifetime. The darker the leaves, the more chlorophyll and much more vitamin K.
- Then the tomato. I recently wrote an article about my love for tomatoes here so I usually add them no matter what, almost always. The "cherry" variety is very practical, you wash and cut them and they look great on your plate, without forgetting their vitamins and lycopene, which is so beneficial for our body.
And after that? What you want, what you like, what you have...
You can add tuna, something I do frequently, everything easy, feta cheese, olives, spring onion, carrots, red pepper, avocado, smoked salmon, diced grilled turkey or chicken, Parmesan cheese, corn, etc. What else would you add?
Of course you have to dress it... for me, extra virgin olive oil is essential, and then also vinegar, I use apple a lot for its health benefits and sometimes Modena vinegar because with chicken and Parmesan cheese, for example, they make a good combination, like a "caesar salad". There are also other famous salads, do you know any?
And of course the salt, marina better, even something coarse and not so refined. Then, if we want, the spices also help us with the flavor: oregano, basil, rosemary, or garlic powder and more grated cheese, in flakes, or some mayonnaise without going crazy.
How much variety! Difficult not to have some of these things... and thus be able to enjoy something as simple as it is good. And we also have to think about the benefits, vitamins, iron, calcium and other nutrients that we need to be able to perform well in our day to day life, good fats, proteins, trace elements, as well as a good taste, fresh and full of health in a moment, in just a salad.
You know, as Hippocrates said: "let food be your medicine".
Thanks for reading! Have a good, healthy and tasty day.
