Went to the MIA in Minneapolis for an Art fix
My husband @preparedwombat and I both had the day off work yesterday and went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In addition to being a world class art museum and a wonderful place, the MIA is special to us because we went there on our epic second date, seven years ago this month, a date after which neither of us has looked back. It was a magical day full of possibility and excitement, and frosty cold just as it was yesterday. After getting our art fix in the galleries yesterday, we went outside and toured the ice maze.
Ice and magic and love
One of the things I love best about Minnesota is something I never experienced growing up in the Pacific Northwest, the brilliant blue of the sky on a winter day when the temperature hovers around 0 Fahrenheit. That crystalline blue over white snow during the day mingling with gold as the sun begins to go down is magical to me. I can't get enough. It makes me giddy, like I just drank champagne.
Azure and honey
I don't know if the MIA does an ice maze every year. It was new to us, and despite the cold, we were enthralled. Kids scampering around with their moms and whooping for joy in the sub-zero temps, the ice of the maze walls mixing the azure sky and honey gold of sunset in a swirl of color. Here are a few of the pictures I took yesterday. Hopefully it captures some of the ice magic.
Some of the walls feature images of objects from the upcoming China’s Last Dynasty exhibition.
Thanks for viewing. Steem on!
(And thanks to @boxcar for making us a couple of fine lattes at Caffeto yesterday afternoon. You chased the chill away!)
