Caicedo Saves Saturdays -- My Actifit Report Card: October 10, 2026
I didn't think I was going to have such a busy weekend. To be fair, these step counts for Friday and Saturday certainly surprised me. Most of my friends were away at Seven Stars festival by GRiZ, so Shae and I were home taking it easy. Or so I thought...
After our half day Friday with the students, we didn't have any professional development as a staff until 4pm. Typically before a 3day weekend (for Indigenous People Day), we have a mental health Friday when we can can leave campus at 1pm once the students are gone. I made sure to print a few papers before I left, but next week there is a bunch of testing, so I won't be teaching new content -- just reviewing the surface area and unit rate problems my students need practice.
With the mental health Friday, of course Team 6 decided to go throw down at the local karaoke spot. I pulled up a bit late at 3.30pm and our team lead had already got us a small room for 4, which was the perfect size for our group. I got to sing a handful of tracks, which were all over the place. I started with some nostalgic 90s tracks including "Ready or Not" by The Fu-Gees, "Basket Case" by Green Day, and the cuss-filled road rage tune "Bad Habit" by The Offspring.
Then I leaned into my range by helping our science teacher by spitting Kanye's hook in "All of the Lights." That was a fun one. Then I threw on Ludacris, who always has fun, witty lyrics, and sang "Number One Spot." I wanted to sing my favorite Disney villain song, but they didn't have "Be Prepared" by Scar. Instead, I settled for an emphatic version of Ursula's "Poor Unfortunate Souls." You just had to be there for the body language.
I got home from karaoke and crashed out after a nice long hot shower. It was a nice end to a long work week. Fresh and clean for bedtime.
Woke up for the New York Blues at 10am since Chelsea was finally back for EPL soccer after a 3 week break for international play. It was nice to see all the boys at the team pub, The Football Factory, after a few weeks. Chelsea responded emphatically after getting their best player back in the midfield, Ecuadorian star Moises Caicedo, made the Blues look so much better.
Chelsea scored 2 goals in the first 3 minutes and cruised to a statement 5-1 win at home. A big win before a strong of games against high profile teams. After some victorious hangs, I walked up to the old Studio 54 theater to get tickets for the new Rocky Horror Picture Show Broadway musical for Sunday night. Special treat for my specialist lady friend. Of course I'd sneak in an early bird dinner at one of her favorite West Village Italian spots if we can't sneak into bar seats at hard-to-get reservations.
The plan worked flawlessly and I got home in time to spend some time at the sunrise to sunset sober rave by Dybrkr. Of course I was too busy to take any pictures haha, just a few videos of the music. You just had to see it. It was great to see multiple generations gathering to dance in a sober outdoor setting at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Legendary NYC DJ Danny Tenaglia played a memorable 90 minute set as he celebrated over 50 years spinning music in the NYC scene!
After the party finished, we walked to get some pizza at the aforementioned L.B. Spumoni Garden to satisfy the hunger after an afternoon of dancing. We got home with our hearts and bellies full. We relaxed on the sofa and watched the movie version of Rocky Horror Picture Show ahead of the play on Sunday. It really shaped up to be an exciting weekend after all!!
