Rain...
My relation to it, has been quite old.
My mother had told me once that I was born on a rainy morning.
While my birth month was typically not a month where the sky teared up, lady Monson had seemed to make an exception that time, when she decided to visit us with a nice little drizzle that lasted up until my parents had brought me home.
While not being typically best friends, the rain and I, we do have some history. But most of these stories, these moments we shared, were woven with silence.
I don't have any grand stories where rain played a major part. Honestly, most of my rainy stories are dull and bland. But there's just something about these dull, monotonous little moments, that have kept me sane throughout my years, and I graciously have to thank lady rain for that. She is quite the magician, I tell you. And if you are a silent rain lover like me, I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about.
The dullest yet liveliest thing I did in the rain would probably be when I was in my teens. That time in my life was filled with anxiety and uncertainty, like most high school students faces when they want to go to college. But dreams were crashing left and right with reality back then, and like a cornered little puppy, I was stuck, helpless.
The admission classes (classes that helped in preparation for college entrance exams around here.) that I had back then, I used to despise them with everything I had. The hatred towards the fucked up education system, the frustration that came with having to do something I didn't like, and the uncertainty of what was coming next, all of it made me want to walk away. So like a rebellious teenager, I had did just that.
At that time, most of my hours were spent walking on empty roads. Skipping the classes I had altogether, I used to go on little adventures every day, exploring the rusty city I lived in, while desperately trying to sort out my already messed up mind.
It was on an uneventful yet stressful day like that; while I was on one of my typical walks, lady rain decided to grace me with her presence.
Like most streetwalkers, at first, I too had rushed to take shelter under some concrete building, watching the sky in dismay as the frustration inside me raged on, until I just thought, 'fuck it', and took a step out, any thoughts of getting drenched be damned.
And to this day, I will say that that walk, was the best walk I had in my life.
There's just something about the way that rain soothes you out. The almost blurry vision, the noise of drizzle and thunder in your ears, the drenched roads and empty sidewalks, it's all surreal. Even this crowded, polluted city I live in looks different when it rains.
Rain brings forth a certain type of silence that nothing else can, and you can stay silent right along with it, as nature sings its tune to the pitter-patter melody it makes.
And that moment when the downpour turns into a drizzle and the first ray of golden light comes out to hit you on your face?
That, to me, feels a lot like healing.
It's said that even the darkness ceases, because there is light.
The gloom dispatches, the shadow vaporizes, and even the soft, sad rain comes to a stop.
Because in the end, no matter what, the sun will always find its way out.
