Today's monomad entry are shots from a small middle school anime convention I attended yesterday. These aren't my typical con photos, these are 6x6 film photos.

My kids tell me these are from two or three different animes.

Terror is walking around a convention with a $300 camera around your neck. Well, I guess I always do that, but for some reason a modern DSLR seems a tad easier to replace than my Yashica Mat.

Good thing I'm not a Stormtrooper, I'd miss every shot!

I almost didn't bring it, but when I saw that B&H was finally sending me the three backordered rolls of Kentmere 400 ISO 120 that I ordered two months ago I decided I could spare a roll and try. After all, I had two already from an impatient impulse buy.

Sailor Scouts

This is the second year of the convention put on by a semi-local middle school as a fundraiser. Last year was outside and everyone was pretty well roasted by the end. This year they had us in the gym, which was lest roasty, but terrible for lighting.

Line up for the cosplay contest in the cafeteria.

Pretty much all of these were taken with the widest aperture on the camera (3.5) and with shutter speeds between 1/30th and 1/15th of a second. I'm honestly shocked I didn't end up with killer blur.

All the middle schoolers with brilliant cosplays.

As usual I developed everything in Caffenol. I have no idea what happened with the edge of some of the photos. I didn't notice it until I had sleeved up the negatives so I didn't look at them closer to see what they looked like. It seems like it only affected part of the roll so I'm guessing there was an issue with the way the film was loaded on the reel.

Scanning was done with a different program this time. After sticking to the Epson software for all previous rolls I decided to see what all the rave was about and try Silverfast. It took some considerable struggle but once I got the hang of it I actually had fun scanning! I know, so weird.

Aries, my favorite DJ

I don't know if I would consider tweaking the scanning settings is considered "processing" or not, but perhaps I'll make an exception to my "no modification" rule for these.

Camera: Yashica Mat from 1961
Film: Kentmere 400
Developed in Caffenol as always.
